THE ART OF IRIS FOLDING
May 10, 2019 @ 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Iris folding is a 20th century Dutch paper art. Strips of plain, patterned, or decorative paper are used to design unique pictures that can be finished as a greeting card or piece of framed art. No two pictures, even of the same design, and even the paper, will ever look alike. Each piece is unique due to the flow of pattern on paper. Join Jennifer and Jeff for a fun, relaxed hands-on workshop where you will learn the iris folding technique and make two works of art which we’ll complete as greeting cards or which you can take home for to frame for your favorite wall space. A variety of templates and paper will be provided for participants to select from. All materials will be provided except for a small scissors which participants are asked to bring with them.
About the Instructors
Jennifer Isham has been a crafter, papercrafter and penpaller since childhood. She loves making handmade greeting cards and papercollage. More often than not, her 25+ penpals can expect to receive a handwritten letter, small paper collage or other small papercraft tucked into one of her handmade greeting cards.
Jeff Ursillo is a longtime and accomplished paperartist. His love of handmade crafts goes back to childhood. He has been making handcrafted greeting cards for a number of years, and particularly enjoys making ones that require precise measuring and paper manipulation. Three dimensional papercrafting projects and bookbinding are also favorites of his. In addition to his skills as a paper artist, Jeff is also a mineralogist who has been cutting cabochons for jewelry for over 20 years.
